About Greg Wells
Greg has enjoyed photography and oil painting his entire life, and began doing photography professionally in 2006. While initially studying photography through the New York Institute of Photography he focused primarily on wildlife and catalog photography but has since migrated towards photographic montages and abstracts. This has allowed him to approach photography much as he approaches oil painting, and explains why many of his montages have a surrealistic or dream like quality to them.
Greg’s signature series are his Portals which are intended to pull the viewer into the picture. Many use combinations of black and white and color photography and others use extensive manipulation to achieve added depth. His newest direction is to combine photography and oil painting in the same piece.
Unlike some montage artists, Greg only uses photographic and painted elements he has created himself. A large percentage of his work contains images from Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona and the UP of Michigan. Many also feature the moon or other celestial objects accounting for Greg's interest in astronomy. Greg also enjoys music and commonly performs live. You can check out his music on iTunes, Spotify, Rhapsody, Amazon and many other places.
